Unity Drone Flute – Transverse – Made to Order

A Unity Drone Flute consists of two single flutes joined together lengthwise, with a single blow hole in the centre. One side has sound holes like a regular flute, while the other, in the same key, has no holes and produces a base tone that gives the sound its drone-like quality. Playing it feels like mastering two flutes at once. A plug is provided to close the drone part, so you can also enjoy it as a single flute.

Inspired by an instrument crafted by a Peruvian master years ago, this transverse drone flute is still a double flute, but it distributes the sound differently, offering a distinct playing sensation that is closer and even more encompassing for the player. It is particularly suitable for those with prior flute-playing experience.

Two drone retuning holes included. The drone part has two extra holes, closed with plugs, that change the base tone. This gives you four playing modes: a single flute plus three variations when playing it as a double flute.

This is a made to order flute.
Range: soprano, alto or bass – choose above.
Key: write your preferred key in the order notes – we will confirm it with you by email before we start (notes are written the way a tuner shows them; middle C = C4).

Tuning options: 432 Hz, 440 Hz or 444 Hz

Each flute comes with plugs for the drone part, a basic care and instruction sheet and a wrapping cloth for basic protection.

This product is crafted upon request. When you place an order, we meticulously handcraft a flute in the chosen range and key, in a similar wood, style and accents. It won’t be an exact replica of the flute depicted in the images, but we strive to ensure a close resemblance. Kindly anticipate a waiting period of 3–6 months for our flutes. While we may occasionally finish orders earlier, more intricate custom pieces can take from 3 months up to a year. The time required to finalize your flute is influenced by factors such as order volume, wood availability, and the intricacy of your chosen flute.
